Ermida de Chamorro

📍 Ferrol

A hillside sanctuary above Serantes with sweeping views over Ferrol and its ría. Its famous romería on Easter Monday is one of the city's most cherished traditions.

On a height overlooking Ferrol and its ría stands the hermitage of the Virxe de Chamorro, «Our Lady of the North-East wind», patron of the seas — sailors greeted her on entering the harbour. A place sacred since ancient times, it keeps a petroglyph with prehistoric carvings beside the chapel. Its popular pilgrimage is held on Easter Monday; the climb is worth it for the views.
