🔬 Water quality (health classification)

During the bathing season the water at each zone is tested. The official rating is: excellent, good, sufficient or poor. In Galicia almost all water is excellent or good. If a zone tests badly, swimming can be banned temporarily until it returns to normal.

🚩 Daily safety flags

Flags show swimming conditions at that moment, not how clean the water is:

• Green: swimming allowed, normal conditions.
• Yellow: caution (currents, waves or undertow); stay near the shore.
• Red: swimming forbidden — danger.

They're set by lifeguards or the council. On unpatrolled beaches take extra care, especially the open-sea ones (Pantín, Frouxeira, Doniños, San Xurxo).

🔵 Blue Flag

The Blue Flag is a separate award: it recognises beaches with quality water and good services (lifeguards, access, information, cleaning). It's run by ADEAC and granted each year.
