🧾 How-to: everyday paperwork

The things everyone has to do at some point and nobody explains. Clear steps and the official link for each procedure.

🏠 Register at your council (padrón)

  1. Gather your DNI or NIE and a document proving your address (rental contract, deed or a recent utility bill).
  2. Book an appointment or go to your council's register; many let you do it online with a digital certificate or Cl@ve.
  3. You get the padrón certificate, needed for almost everything else: healthcare, school and aid.

  1. Book an appointment in the official system: you can't be seen without one.
  2. Go to the police station with your documents and proof the fee is paid.
  3. Renew your DNI before it expires; the passport requires a valid DNI.

👶 Tarxeta Benvida (newborn aid)

  1. Xunta aid for families with a baby by birth, adoption or fostering; you must be registered (empadroado) in Galicia.
  2. Apply preferably online at the Xunta's e-office, within the annual call's deadline.
  3. The amount and requirements change every year: check them on the official page before applying.

🩺 Health card & doctor (Sergas)

  1. Once registered, request the Sergas health card at your health centre.
  2. You can choose or change your doctor or paediatrician at your centre or on the Sergas website.
  3. Manage appointments and prescriptions via É-Saúde or the Sergas app.

🎒 School enrolment (admisión)

  1. Admission to schools has an annual window, usually in spring.
  2. Apply at your chosen school; check the points system and paperwork on the admission portal.
  3. For ages 0-3 look also at nursery schools and the Tarxeta Benvida.

💼 Register as a jobseeker

  1. Register as a jobseeker with the Galician Public Employment Service, with a certificate or Cl@ve, or at your office.
  2. If you qualify for benefit, claim it at the SEPE within the deadline.
  3. Renew (stamp) your jobseeker registration on the dates you're given.

🎫 Youth Card (Carné Xove)

  1. If you're aged 14-30, the Carné Xove gives discounts on transport, culture, leisure and shops.
  2. Apply through Xuventude (Xunta).
