Ferrol's Enlightenment-era historic quarter—one of the first planned urban developments in Europe, built with the criteria of the Age of Enlightenment. Elegant grid streets, galleries and glassed-in balconies. Declared a Historic-Artistic Site.
The Magdalena quarter is Ferrol's great Enlightenment legacy: an 18th-century grid so regular it earned the nickname «chocolate bar». Here are what were Galicia's first glazed galleries, over granite houses with cast-iron balconies. Listed as a Historic Site in 1983. Through its streets and the city centre also runs a notable Modernist route: 28 buildings by the architect Rodolfo Ucha, a reference of Galician Art Nouveau, raised between 1909 and 1927.
