As Meninas de Canido

📍 Ferrol

An open-air street-art museum in Ferrol's Canido neighbourhood. Since 2008, artists from around the world have painted more than 500 murals reinterpreting Velázquez's 'Las Meninas' across its walls, turning a once-declining quarter into a living gallery. The festival peaks on the first weekend of September, but the murals can be walked any day of the year.

In 2008, the artist Eduardo Hermida began painting Meninas inspired by Velázquez on the walls of Canido's upper quarter, then abandoned. The idea grew with neighbours and other artists into an international street-art landmark that revitalised the area and is celebrated every year.
