Vixía Herbeira (Serra da Capelada)

The highest sea cliffs in the Iberian Peninsula—600 metres of vertical rock face dropping into the Atlantic Ocean. The Miradoiro de Vixía Herbeira offers breathtaking panoramic views. One of the most spectacular viewpoints in all of Europe.
The Herbeira cliffs, in the Serra da Capelada, are among the highest in continental Europe, dropping some 613 m to the sea. At the top stands the Vixía Herbeira lookout, a stone watch-post from the early 19th century that scans the Cantabrian Sea. The famous wild horses graze on its slopes.

Entry: Free (open-air viewpoint).
Getting there: By car on the DP-2205 (Cariño–Cedeira, towards San Andrés de Teixido); at the entrance to San Andrés a signposted turn-off leads to the viewpoint. About 16 km from Cedeira. The road reaches almost to the viewpoint.
What it is: At about 615 m, one of the highest cliffs in continental Europe (a ~613 m drop to the sea), with the old 1805 watch hut.
When to go: Very exposed to wind and fog; bring warm clothing even in summer and keep away from the edge. Wild horses are often about.
