Festas de San Roque August
Ares holds its San Roque patron festival around 7-9 August; in June the historic Voto de Chanteiro also stands out.
Romaría do Voto de Chanteiro May
One of Ferrolterra's most traditional pilgrimages, at the <b>hermitage of Nosa Señora do Porto de Chanteiro</b> (Ares). Tradition holds that in <b>1404</b> the people of <b>Ares and Mugardos</b> begged the Virgin to spare them from a plague and vowed to offer her six pounds of wax each year: the famous <b>Voto de Chanteiro</b>, still renewed by both towns. Held at <b>Pentecost</b> (movable date), with Mass, bagpipes and empanada.
