Mugardos
A coastal municipality in the Ferrol comarca. Known for Festa do Polbo.
A fishing village on the Ferrol ría, famed for its polbo á mugardesa — octopus in a pepper, garlic and bay sauce — and its Octopus Festival in July. The Castelo da Palma guards the mouth of the ría. Built in 1597, it closed the ría's mouth together with the castles of San Felipe and San Martiño (Ares), in a 'triangle of fire' that made the estuary almost impregnable.
