As Pontes
An inland municipality in the Eume comarca. Known for Lago das Pontes.
The old inland mining capital, now reinvented around its huge artificial lake — one of Spain's largest — born from the former lignite mine and today with a beach and water sports. It keeps a strong character of its own: the Feira do Grelo (February, of Tourist Interest) and the Romaría da Fraga. From its past comes the Camiño Vello dos Arrieiros, the old muleteers' road — studied by Federico Maciñeira — that linked As Pontes with the Porto de Bares (about 50 km through As Pontes and Mañón), lined with stone crosses.
