Fragas do Eume

📍 A Capela

One of Europe's best-preserved Atlantic rainforests—a protected Natural Park with ancient oaks, ferns, and crystal-clear rivers. The park covers 9,000 hectares along the Eume river valley. New guided itineraries for summer 2026 explore the Monastery of Caaveiro and the Belelle waterfall. The great natural treasure of Ferrolterra.

One of the best-preserved Atlantic riverside forests in Europe and a Natural Park since 1997: oaks, chestnuts and alders draped in ferns and moss along the river Eume. The Caaveiro monastery hides within it. Best in spring, when the forest is at its finest.

Practical info

Entry: Free (natural park).

Access to Caaveiro: The Ombre–Caaveiro road is closed to traffic from 23 June to 11 September; at Easter and in summer car access is restricted and you continue on foot or by bike.

Interpretation centre: At Andarúbel (Ombre–Caaveiro road, km 5, Pontedeume). Summer (1 May–30 Sep): Mon 9–14; Tue–Fri 9–14 & 16–18; Sat 10–14 & 15:30–19; Sun 10–14 & 16–18. Winter (1 Oct–30 Apr): Tue–Fri & Sun 10–14; Sat & holidays 10–14 & 16–18.
