Ferrol's naval legacy: centuries of shipbuilding
Since the 18th century, Ferrol has been a great shipbuilding centre and capital of the Navy's Northern Maritime Department. The Royal Shipyards, built between 1726 and 1783, launched warships sheathed in copper rolled at the Xubia mills. Today Navantia carries on that maritime tradition on the same historic slipways.
