Surfing in Ferrolterra
Ferrolterra is one of Spain's great surf regions: Pantín has hosted the Pantín Classic, a world-tour event, since the late 1980s, and the coast strings together waves for every level.
Where
Pantín (Valdoviño) is the famous wave; Doniños and San Xurxo (Ferrol) work most of the year; A Frouxeira adds kilometres of peaks. In summer there are surf schools on the main beaches.
When
Autumn and winter bring the best swells; summer, with gentler waves, is ideal for learning. The water is Atlantic: wetsuit all year round.
Safety
Respect the flags and lifeguards, ask about rip currents before paddling out, and don't surf alone on wild beaches.
